Where Demons Dwell

Previously, I wrote a blog titled, “Ghost Hunting Investigation and Philosophy.” In that entry, I mentioned, “Angels and demons do have their place in our life and the afterlife. But, most of the time, it’s not in the old house down the street.” After stating that, I noted I would elaborate more in a later post. For those who have been waiting for me to explain myself, look no further.

To start, demonic hauntings differ from regular hauntings. Examples between the two are as follows. Standard hauntings regard spirits that were once human beings. A demonic haunting regards entities that never existed as human. Between these two differences, encountering a demon is slim to none. As a matter of fact, it is more common to encounter one’s guardian angel rather than a demonic entity. Yet, one should never dismiss demonic activity or investigate locations where negativity gathers.

Afterlife Possibilities

When we die, many possibilities can occur. Most times, our spirit will return to where it was its happiest, or it will continue into the great hereafter. It isn’t going to hang around somewhere saturated in sadness and torment.

Under some circumstances, it may have unfinished business. If this is the case, it will linger until that business is complete. Other times, it can experience a state of confusion and disorientation. If this is the case, it requires the assistance of the living to crossover.

Then there are the earthbound spirits. Some of which are afraid to crossover due to the actions they committed while alive. They stay behind in our world because they fear condemnation once crossing over. Because of this fear, the spirit persecutes itself in death. To ascend, this type of spirit requires forgiveness among the living. Sometimes, as the spirit remains in this state, its negativity can draw lower entities. This concept is but one minor ingredient that can create sour land.

The greatest ingredient to attract demons are establishments born to harbor negativity. Places can include, but are not limited to: asylums, prisons, hospitals, or cemeteries. If one considers it, the least amount of joy comes from these locations. Even if a human spirit does reside in one of these locations, I wouldn’t investigate. Establishments, like the ones above, are nothing more than cesspools for nonhuman entities.

Overall, nothing exists in cemeteries or abandoned hospitals and prisons, except leeching things. These are unclean spirits that have never lived in human form. What attracts them to these locations is the negative karma collected there. They feed on the sorrow, the hate, the repression, the anger, and they grow stronger from it. When one investigates these locations, they are asking for spiritual and physical trouble.

Home Types

Each home has its own history. With that history are skeletons, some of which are worse than others. Habitually, a haunted house shouldn’t pose any danger. Most homes don’t share lower vibrations like cemeteries, asylums, hospitals, or prisons. So, the typical haunted house hosts nothing more than human spirits.

Now, consider a home that was never an institution or a cemetery. It was built as a residence. But when that home garners a reputation of suicide and unmarked graves, the concept changes. Negative grounds, such as these, can harbor not only ghosts, but malevolent entities.

Physical EndangermentHOSPITAL

One of the many haunted attractions in my hometown is an abandoned hospital. In the passing years, it has been infamous for investigations. Granted, these investigations are ones that individuals don’t pay for. Nor are they investigations welcomed by the city. Still, a group of ghost hunters searched the hospital, despite its many dangers. Inside, they stumbled upon the disposed body of an elderly woman. They found her, not only raped, but murdered.

This is but one example of the dangers one may find when intruding somewhere they don’t belong. One must realize when a place is abandoned and deemed unsafe, there is a reason. It’s not that the owner of that location wants to neglect tourists, or locals, from having a good time. It’s the possibility that if one enters an abandoned location, it could result in injury or death. Such as the investigators who found the dead body, I can only assume luck was on their side. Under other circumstances, their fate could have been much worse.

Spiritual Endangerment

Physical endangerment aside, there is a spiritual risk when investigating negative grounds. These dangers can occur in two instances.

One, the entity can follow you home from the location as an attachment. No matter what haunted property I visit, I always depart telling the entities they can’t follow me home.

Two, this second possibility is rare, but it can happen. Worse than an attachment, the negative entity can possess the investigator. This can lead to long term damages.

The House

There exists a house in my hometown that I refuse to set foot in again. The location, a beautiful antebellum home nestled in a cul du sac. Its historic grandeur modernized by a contemporary courtyard and chapel. Although in a crime riddled neighborhood, the innkeepers joked no one ever trespassed. Their reasoning was their haunted reputation kept the thugs away.

By first appearance, the home didn’t seem intimidating. It seemed like an ideal place to unwind with a mint julep and a cigarette as the day wound down. Yet, once night fell, this establishment acquired a more brooding vibe. It felt like a forgotten landmark that fell under a threatening shadow. One that weighed heavy with danger and desolation.

The purpose for being here wasn’t only to investigate. A few months prior, an author friend and I decided to film a paranormal documentary. After we found a haunted location, we reached out to local paranormal investigators. Once everything was in order, we were ready to begin.

During this time, we were aware of the many tragic events that occurred at the location. Besides typical deaths that would befall any family, the home endured the siege of Vicksburg; a time when not an inch of the city was without starvation, neglect, and death. Much like other antebellum homes, this property saw its share of bloodshed.

Since the turn of the twentieth century, homeowners came and went. Each decade left its mark on the house, granting it repairs and renovations. As modern life progressed, an additional building became erected on the property. At some point, this new addition morphed into a garage. Later, one of the many owners would commit suicide within the structure. His reason for taking his life remains a mystery.

Years passed and the garage underwent a remodel. After it transformed into a chapel, it would host weddings, reunions, and banquets. Around the millennium, new innkeepers were landscaping near the structure. Amidst their work, one of them stumbled upon an adult skeleton.

Shocked and confused, they called local authority and had the remains investigated. Later, results claimed their discovery was Civil War related. As an act of good will, they had the bones returned to their resting place.

Our Project

When we began filming, the plan was to record a non-scripted movie that detailed our weekend. Throughout the day, we recorded interviews and documented history on the home. At night, we investigated. Our methods included: E.V.P., flashlight manipulation, spirit photography, and EMF readings. The response we received among these methods was favorable.

At night, in the courtyard, apparitions of a ghost child appeared. Inside the chapel and lodging quarters, the flashlight communicated. It provided one flash for “yes,” two for “no.” Throughout, orbs appeared in digital photos, and the EMF reacted to sensitive areas. Disembodied whispers sounded on the E.V.P. recording. All of which seemed harmless and human.

While investigating, we received two negative verbal replies. One was an E.V.P. from a male spirit who wasn’t fond that a member of our group was Native American. Another E.V.P. spoke in a whisper, calling me a liar.

After that weekend, the directors of the movie destroyed our intent of the film in editing. Due to a mutual agreement, we terminated the project. As our movie fell into celluloid limbo, the establishment’s innkeepers remained graceful. Weeks later, I found myself on the property again.

This time, my reasoning regarded a charity benefit. The concept was, since the house was proven haunted, we would host a paid investigation. The proceeds of which would assist the local child abuse prevention center. Again, the innkeepers opened their doors to us.

My last night on this property was in late October, the night of the benefit. That evening, the property received over thirty guests, not including ourselves and Mom. Because of the successful turn out, investigators divided the crowd. As half went to investigate inside the chapel, my group entered the home. After an hour, the two groups would swap locations. This would allow everyone to experience the entire property.

Inside the main quarters, a ghost box answered questions through a field of white noise. Temperatures changed and the flashlight flickered by paranormal manipulation. Nothing more materialized. Once the hour concluded, our groups rotated location.

After another hour, we exited the chapel and stood on the courtyard. As we conversed, an acquaintance, who is an aura reader, noted she suffered a migraine. Alongside her discomfort, she felt weak and nauseated. These ailments weren’t relieved until she stepped off the property. Judging her reactions, this indicated something other than human spirits dwelled there.

Once the sickness passed, we listened to the E.V.P. recording she gained from inside the chapel. Focusing, we heard typical sounds birthed from our group, voice tags included. However, moments later, something disembodied spoke.

“GET OUT,” it belched, its vocals absent of humanistic qualities. Its voice sounded like a mixture of an animal tainted by something thick and sandpapery. It was hair raising. Bloodcurdling. Evil. Never had I heard such a nightmarish sound before.

Without the desire to continue, my night ended. To this day, I don’t know for sure what we contacted that evening. I only know I never want to subject myself to its presence again.

Still, I believe the speaker on the E.V.P was demonic. If the illness and off kilter feelings the aura reader experienced didn’t prove this, the voice did. There could be many reasons why this evil roams the property. I blame the property’s bloody history and the unmarked grave.

Sometimes, It Follows

Years passed and I avoided that property until one spring night. That evening, Mom, a friend, and myself attended another friend’s wedding in downtown. Once the reception ended, the three of us spoke about ghosts. I joked, “The entire city of Vicksburg is haunted.” Although this sounds humorous, it’s true.

As we traded stories, Mom spoke about our experience from that one fateful night. Back when we stood outside the chapel and listened to devilish vocals speak through an E.V.P. recording. After Mom’s elaboration, our friend grew intrigued to see the property. Against my better judgement, Mom offered to escort her onto the land.

Opposing their excursion plans, I urged otherwise. Despite my warning, and how I didn’t want to accompany them, I was stuck in a predicament. Being their ride for the night, I had no other choice but to play chauffeur. Nonetheless, I found myself driving to the place that I vowed to never return.

When we eased alongside the location, an immediate chill ravished me. Parking on the curve, across from the property, I decided to go no further. While Mom and our friend strolled about, I remained standing at the car. To ensure safety, I prayed to Saint Michael.

For a half hour, they explored as I prayed. What I found interesting, may it be due to coincidence or an enraged entity, the weather shifted. The night, already humid with the promise of storm, began to roll thunder. Next, came a downpour that returned me inside the vehicle and sent Mom and our friend running for cover.

Once they joined me, I joked, “See, that’s the spirits not wanting you there.”

We drove away and the storm concluded a few blocks later. After dropping off our friend, Mom and I had an errand to run before returning home. At our destination, Mom received a call. Not wanting to wait, I explained that I would go inside, purchase what I needed, then we would leave.

I was inside the business but a few minutes when I heard a car alarm sound from outside. Since the store provided windows that overlooked the parking lot, I saw something triggered my car. Odd considering I never set an alarm. Thinking nothing more of it, I figured Mom would deactivate the noise. Instead, she called me, asking that I come out, turn off the alarm and let her out of the car, as she claimed to be locked inside. Again, odd considering there aren’t childproof locks on the doors. Immediately, my mind returned to her exploring the haunted location.

I walked outside and pressed the button on my keyring that deactivated the alarm. Next, I pressed the button that would release the locks from their placement.

As Mom exited the car, I approached her and explained she needed to say a protection prayer. This was something she hadn’t done when entering, or exiting, the haunted grounds. Furthermore, when leaving, she didn’t tell the spirits they couldn’t follow. Because of our forgetfulness, some negative attachment was to blame for the current disturbance.

In the parking lot, we prayed for safety. Also, we added if anything did attach itself to us that it needed to return to where it came. After praying, we experienced no future problems.

The Voice Returns

Later that year, my partner, Kerry moved in with me. Over the matter of a few months, we fell into a routine. To wind down before bed, we entertain ourselves with paranormal shows. Overall, I don’t invest faith in television, especially if it regards aliens or spirits. Kerry is much the same in this standard.

One night, we were watching a paranormal show. In this particular episode, a lady spoke about a demonic presence haunting her. Although, I take these shows with a grain of salt, this person’s story didn’t sound farfetched. Instead, she explained the demon affected her physical and mental wellbeing. Compared to my past experiences, I felt like she wasn’t lying. As we watched, I noted to Kerry that her story sounded accurate.

Next, the speaker provided evidence of what caused her torment. To my surprise, the presented evidence was an E.V.P. recording. After hearing the documented voice, my eyes widened. The vocals were identical to the E.V.P. we obtained years ago during our investigation. The one that belched, “GET OUT!”

Goosebumps blanked my skin. Shaken, I blurted, “That’s the exact same voice I heard before.” To be certain I wasn’t overreacting, I rewound the footage and played it again. Listening a second time, I concentrated. Without a doubt, the E.V.P. provided the same muddied mixture of rough, animalistic vocals. Like before, the voice was hair raising. Bloodcurdling. Evil.

Today, I still refuse to return to that property. At times, when it can’t be avoided, I drive by its location. In the day, it remains a welcoming establishment, ideal for lodging. At night, shadows continue to transform its structure into a brooding landmark.

My philosophy is no matter how protected one might be, there are no guarantees that one is 100% safe. Unless one is a professional with the power to perform exorcisms, leave these areas alone.

Yes, some of these locations may house one or two human spirits, but the risk isn’t worth finding out.

Side Notes:

I am not responsible for anyone who investigates an abandoned institution or cemetery. My advice is to leave these areas alone and to not disturb the entities that might dwell there.

How to Correctly Operate an Ouija

Photo Mar 22, 8 11 22 AM

So, you want to play with an Ouija? If so, there are ways to narrow down the chances of contacting negative entities. First and foremost, the Ouija is not a game. It is a tool utilized to communicate with loved ones who are no longer physically with us. It should not be utilized as a joke or entertainment.

For the last decade I have conducted Ouija work and investigations. Throughout that period, I can count on one hand the times something negative has occurred. More times than not, Ouija work has provided closure, understanding, and peace if operated correctly. To break the evil stigma of Ouija boards, and to prevent others from negative experiences, this blog will detail how to correctly operate an Ouija. Also, I will elaborate on what can happen when an Ouija isn’t utilized properly and how to rid one’s home of negative entities.

What One Should Do When Conducting an Ouija Session:

1. Determine who you would like to contact. (Friend or family only)

2. Nearby the Ouija, supply a photo of the deceased and a personal item that belonged to them. To show respect, present an offering of something they enjoyed while they were alive. Offerings can include, but are not limited to, cigarettes, drink, snack, or flowers.

3. Dress a white candle with virgin olive oil and ask that it release positive energy. Next, ask for the power of Saint Michael to protect you. Although this isn’t necessary, one can open a psychic bubble of protection.

4. Smudge the room and each person with sage, asking that the smoke purify and protect.

5. Dim the lights, join hands with other guests, and say the Lord’s Prayer.

6. Now that you’re protected, ask to speak with your loved one by first and last name.

7. When finished, close with the Lord’s prayer.

While conducting Ouija work, one can also include techniques used in a paranormal investigation. CLICK HERE TO LEARN INVESTIGATION PHILOSOPHIES AND TECHNIQUES.

What One Shouldn’t Do When Conducting an Ouija Session:

1. Using the Ouija is not a joke. If a guest mocks the spirit, pushes the planchette, or insists this is fake, ask them to stop. If they remain disrespectful, ask them to leave. Their presence could invite negative entities into the session. My best advice is not to invite a person who one already knows is disrespectful.

2. Don’t enter a session asking, “Are there any spirits here who would like to speak?” Ask specifically for the spirit you want to contact. Otherwise, asking a question this open is dangerous. It’s similar to entering a chat room full of strangers and asking if anyone wants to hang out.

3. Never give your last name. If the spirit has disguised itself, and is negative, it can reveal one’s own dirt.

4. Never part ways without thanking the spirit for communication and Saint Michael for protection.

What One May Experience During an Ouija Session:

1. A change in room temperature, such as drafts of cool air.

2. Disembodied knocking that comes in sets.

3. Fragrances that the deceased loved in life.

4. Drowsy or energy drained. If this occurs, it’s the spirit that has exhausted your energy to manifest. To recuperate, go to bed.

5. Becoming emotional. I call my Ouija table, “The Table of Tears,” due to the quantity of people who have cried during our sessions.

The Cat and the Toad

In my decade of Ouija operating, I have had few negative experiences. The only reason for these episodes was due to me not knowing how to manage the board.

The worst circumstance regarded an entity, which identified itself as a demon. Considering how willing it was to reveal its name, I have my doubts. Rather I think it was a negative spirit with demonic knowledge. Exorcism research shows demons rarely reveal their names, unless forced into a corner. Furthermore, the chances of an entity being demonic is rather slim. Yet, these facts didn’t improve the circumstance.

The events prior to this session occurred at a friend’s house, who we will call “X”. One night, when we were hanging out, X explained she and multiple friends had seen a white cat running through her house. Considering she didn’t own a white cat, I immediately became intrigued. In the past, I had heard of animal hauntings and haunted animals. Until now, I never thought I would encounter such a unique opportunity.

After learning of the phantom cat, I relayed the information to my mother, who first introduced me to the paranormal. However, at that time, she was just as inexperienced as myself with an Ouija. Following a brief debate, we decided this would be a good opportunity to learn. I called X and explained we wanted to investigate the situation with an Ouija. Sounding like a good idea, X said, “Let’s do it.”

It was a Friday night in February when we arrived at X’s house with the Ouija. Here, X took us to a room where the white cat was seen on multiple occasions. With a mixture of nervousness and excitement, we set up the board, lit a few candles, and turned off the light.

The session began by us inquiring if any spirits would care to communicate. At first, the planchette was hesitant then it began gliding across the board. A few questions later, the planchette gained momentum. Through questioning, we discovered a male spirit was attached to the property.

Minutes later, the spirit began contradicting itself. Next, it developed the antics of a practical jokester and boasted it had been lying to us. By this revelation, my stomach dropped with a mixture of fear, confusion, and disappointment. Judging by the looks on everyone’s face, I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.

Although our better judgment insisted we stop, an overpowering vibration urged otherwise. Returning to square one, we asked again for the spirit to identify itself. In response, it claimed it never existed in human form. Next, the planchette revealed the number 66 and the name Baal.

Deciding we weren’t qualified for this, we ended the session and prayed for protection. Included in our prayer, we asked that the spirit depart from X’s property. When finished, we turned on the light then sat dumbfounded. Each of us questioning ourselves and our experience. The cat, the number 66, and Baal – none of this made sense to us.

Since we were entering the new age of smart phones, X and I began research. As we opened up our browsers, we didn’t expect to find anything substantial. Yet, to our surprise, demonology explained Baal presented himself in the form of a toad or white cat. Furthermore, he is a Duke of Hell with 66 legions of demons under his command.

By learning this information, chills raced throughout me. We all looked to one another, wide eyed and stiff with tension. Not knowing how to proceed, Mom and I suggested X to contact a professional. Until then, we suggested prayer and for her to raise her positive vibrations. (Raising positive vibrations can be easily accomplished by laughing, listening to upbeat music, singing, etc.)

On the drive home, something oppressive weighed down on me. Instead of worrying about any long-term damage, I considered I still felt on edge from the session. In the passing days, I began experiencing a mixture of anxiety and depression. In the passing nights, I began sleeping with a lamp on, feeling too intimidated to sleep in the dark.

As a month progressed, my home, which always felt welcoming, changed. In a short time, its positive vibrations shifted to negative. The warmth of my home diminished into the cold shell of a house. During this period, I never saw a white cat. However, most nights when anxiety levels were their worst, I would step outside for a cigarette and find a toad sitting near my doorstep. Since it was the spring, I didn’t consider its presence unusual.

From February through March, the negativity increased each day. There were moments the void grew so overbearing that I would open all windows, doors, and curtains, to allow in natural light. At first, this helped. But the sunlight was nothing more than a temporary bandage. The change in atmosphere continued to increase, causing friends to shorten their lengthy visits. Each of which claimed the house felt tight and heavy.

Realizing none of this was normal, and this wasn’t just a trick of my emotions, I had an epiphany. But I couldn’t be certain of my assumptions, until I received verification. To support my conclusion, I called X and asked how things were. X explained there were no more problems on her end. That moment was when I realized the negative entity followed me home.

Now understanding what troubled me, I explained the circumstance to my mother. Unbeknownst to me, she had been speaking with a friend who was a catholic priest. As a precaution, he provided her with the following exorcise to eliminate evil spirits. Some call this, “The Epiphany Blessing of a Home,” others call it, “The Chalking of a Door”.

1. At one’s front and back doors, make the sign of the cross.

2. Head of the Household recites: Peace be to the house and all who dwell here, in the name of the Lord.

3. All recites: Blessed be God forever.

4. Head of the Household recites John 1:1-5

5. Use white chalk, write on the outside of your house, near both front and back doors.

(Write first half of the current year)

(Write the other half of the year)

One can also write this as: +20+C+M+B+18

These words mean, “May Christ bless this house.”

Or, one could use the names of the Magi.

(Write first half of the current year)

(Write the other half of the year)

One can also write this as: +20+C+M+B+18

6. All recite: Lord God of heaven and earth, you revealed your only begotten Son to every nation by the guidance of a star. Bless this house and all who inhabit it. May we be blessed with health, goodness of heart, gentleness and the keeping of your love. Fill us with the light of Christ that our love for each other may go out to all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

After preforming the prayer near my front and back doors, the problems began to decrease. Within days, my house simply opened back up. Visitors who didn’t know of the paranormal activity, or prayer, instinctively felt the difference. As their visits lengthened, one friend commented, “I don’t know what you’ve done, but your home feels more open. It’s like there’s more space to breathe.”

The toad never returned to my doorstep.

The Table of Tears

The above experience shows the aftermath of an unskilled session. However, entering a skilled session can provide the opposite. By correctly operating the Ouija, one can achieve closure, understanding, and peace.

As previously stated, I call my Ouija table, “The Table of Tears”. Over the years, it has earned this name due to the tears shed during our skilled sessions. Despite the name drawing negative assumptions, its backstory is anything but.

Numerous times when people have cried at my Ouija table, they have done so due to receiving understanding, closure, or peace from their deceased loved one. Without focusing on one specific account, but a few, I have seen participants offer and grant forgiveness due to unresolved issues. Other times, they have reminisced with their contacted spirit. Yet, no matter what occurs, may it be forgiveness or reminiscing, information is always gained.

When speaking with a deceased friend or family member through the Ouija, one will know it is them. Not only is it a feeling, but the spirit will utilize spelling and lingo that one can recognize. Also, the spirit will utilize familiar nicknames, reference their old sayings, and display an unchanged humor and personality. These clues will confirm one is speaking to their preferred contact.

As one can see, the Ouija does have positive and negative aspects. Primarily, the results depend on those who participate and the knowledge of what one is doing. Although the Ouija has a negative reputation, I feel positive if one follows the rules, problems shouldn’t arise.

Side Notes:

Don’t feel surprised if there is no response on the first try, or other times when using the board. This can be normal, as it is the spirit who chooses to speak with us when we call. More times than not, one should receive a response.

I don’t assume responsibility for anyone who attempts an Ouija session. One should operate the Ouija at their own risk.

Ghost Hunting Introduction and Philosophy

c4 (4).jpg

One of the most ubiquitous questions throughout history – Do ghosts exist? Under multiple circumstances, I have participated in paranormal investigations and séances. In some cases, I have interacted with the spirit realm. Other times, I have encountered nothing more than silence within the dead of night. I am not here to convince readers if spirits do exist, but to share a philosophy which I use when investigating.

Note: Throughout this blog, all posted photos are ones that I have taken. None were tampered with, except I did remove the identities of those among the living. Under some circumstances, I have circled the questionable evidence.

Rules When Conducting a Paranormal Experiment:

1. Enter the investigation with a skeptical mind. Debunk, debunk, debunk, and when finished, debunk some more. The goal should be to prove the location is not haunted.

Debunking should include:

A. Always take two photos of the same subject. If the occurrence is paranormal, there is a good chance that it will only appear in one photo and not both. Reenact photos if one must.

B. Have a professional check electrical wiring and plumbing. Bad plumbing can be the cause of many odd sounds. Noises can include pounding, tapping, rattling, etc. Bad wiring can cause flickering lights, bulbs might prematurely expire, or smoke might occur near outlets.

C. Voice check when conducting an E.V.P. (Electronic Voice Phenomena). Example: If someone sneezes while recording, say thereafter, “NAME sneezing.” This may come as a surprise, but many natural functions can sound demonic when played back on a device. Of course, this isn’t limited to sounds made by the human body. One should consider voice tagging when someone trips or bumps into a piece of furniture. Tags are important because they eliminate false possibilities. They also remind us that not every bump in the night is paranormal.

D. Scout the area with an EMF Meter. An EMF Meter measures AC electromagnetic fields; and it will react to locations with electrical wiring. The goal is to see where the meter reacts prior to conducting an experiment. When attempting communication with the spirit realm, spirits can tamper with the EMF Meter. By asking “yes or no” questions, a spirit can illuminate the device in response. Doing an EMF run through can show where to avoid natural electrical frequencies. This will grant an accurate reading when a spirit attempts to communicate.

2. If all debunking is complete and the evidence remains unexplained, prepare for lengthier investigations. These investigations can stretch from days to weeks to months. In some cases, investigations can remain ongoing for years or longer. Much like therapy sessions, paranormal investigations require time, attention, and participation.

In the past, I have encountered cases which have lasted weeks to months. Others, to my knowledge, remain cold cases.

3. When communicating with a spirit, never disrespect or antagonize them.

A. Antagonizing can include methods such as, “I don’t think you’re really here! I don’t believe in you! Prove yourself to me, if you want me to think you’re real!”

B. Disrespect can include methods similar to antagonizing. Examples regard the insult of personal beliefs that a spirit may have held dear when alive. It can also include cursing and name calling.

1. I once witnessed “ghost hunters” wear Union uniforms while investigating a Confederate soldier’s home. Even if investigators wore Confederate uniforms in a Union soldier’s home, I would still consider the method just as tasteless.

2. I once witnessed a different group of “ghost hunters” refer to the departed as “A f*cking coward”.

Guilty parties stooped to these tactless methods because they wanted a response when they weren’t receiving one.

Remember, when investigating, the living is invading the home of the deceased. If a spirit doesn’t want to speak, it doesn’t have to. Upon not receiving a response, the above examples can cause negativity, not only towards the spirit, but oneself.

For those who still feel justified in the bully method, let me put this into perspective. How would you like to be relaxing at home and a complete stranger barges in and begins bullying you?

Now, let’s consider the reverse side of the coin. What if you barge into someone’s home intending insult and they have a short temper? Remember, you’re on their territory. If a spirit is powerful enough, it can do worse things than ignore.

4. When investigating, take notes and share them after the investigation concludes.

Upon hearing a disembodied voice on an E.V.P., privately notate with pen and paper what you heard. Do not share this information until everyone has had the same opportunity as oneself.

Speaking aloud prior to investigators separately notating can influence their thoughts. Doing this can provide inaccurate readings.

The correct way to accomplish an E.V.P. summary is as follows:

Six investigators notate what they hear in an E.V.P. recording. One of the six writes, “I’m going to get you.” The other five write, “I can’t forget you.” Majority rules.

Demons vs. Spirits

Such as angels and spirits, demons do exist. However, the chance of encountering a demon is rare compared to encountering a spirit. Furthermore, encountering a demon can be as rare as encountering an angel.

Angels and demons do have their place in our life and the afterlife. But, most of the time, it’s not in the old house down the street. (I will cover this topic in a later blog.)

Sometimes, people will jump to conclusions and say a demon is tormenting them. In most cases, if unable to debunk, there is a good chance the entity is an angry spirit who was once human. My argument is, if a person was unpleasant in life, death won’t make them any nicer. So please, don’t blame every circumstance on a demon.

If a situation does prove to be demonic, refer to a spiritual professional. Professionals would include any ordained religious person who maintains a knowledge of demonology. This is, of course, after debunking, professional psychiatric evaluation, and observation.

Reality vs. Entertainment (What to Expect if You Are Haunted)

When we think of hauntings, we think of blockbuster movies. The truth is, hauntings are not that extreme. Even when TV shows reenact hauntings, they exaggerate the scare factor for entertainment. Remember, ratings are what matter.

Actual hauntings, even the extreme ones, are subtle. Sometimes, so subtle that unless one has the correct equipment (E.V.P.’s, cameras, EMF Meters, etc.) the activity can seem dismissive.

Haunted Activity Can Include:

Unusual sounds, fragrances, temperature changes, electrical tampering, etc. If the spirit is strong enough, it can materialize. Most times, materialization occurs in photos.

Demonic Activity Can Include:

Unpleasant sounds, unpleasant fragrances, temperature changes, electrical tampering, etc. If the entity is strong enough, it can materialize. Most times, materialization occurs in photos. Unlike a haunting, demonic activity can affect one mentally and physically.

Mental Symptoms: depression, anxiety, and paranoia.

Physical Symptoms: mysterious scratches, bruises, and aches and pains.

Although paranormal phenomena does exist, it isn’t as common as what one would think. If one becomes an investigator, debunk until a rational explanation is no longer available. If the location shows paranormal activity, do not disrespect or antagonize the deceased. Any other goal when conducting an investigation, which excludes the client’s wellbeing, is unprofessional.

One may notice that I did not list any statistics regarding paranormal activity. In truth, there are no statics. As of today, a successful scientific study hasn’t been conducted to support paranormal activity.

To quote a scene from “The X-Files” between Deep Throat and Fox Mulder:

DT: Mister Mulder, why are those like yourself, who believe in the existence of extraterrestrial life on this Earth, not dissuaded by all the evidence to the contrary?

FM: Because all the evidence to the contrary is not entirely dissuasive.

Although this dialogue regards extraterrestrials, it still rings true when discussing paranormal topics.

Side Notes

No, I am not interested in joining a “ghost hunting” group.

Yes, I may have spoken ill about a few “ghost hunting” groups, but not all “ghost hunters” are unprofessional. If it weren’t for the professionals in my life, I wouldn’t have learned what I currently shared.
